Late Night Tales - Friendly Fires Album Cover
Albums of Note...Late Night Tales - Friendly Fires St. Albans' Friendly Fires are the latest act to take on the challenge of compiling a Late Night Tales compilation. They've gone for a mix of modern and classic, with SBTRKT's 'Hold On' providing the most familiar tune on the tracklisting. Elsewhere, they've opted for a spot of disco, courtesy of Renee and Joe Simon and move on to the Cocteau Twin's "haunting pop number, 'Cherry Coloured Funk and Slowdive's esoteric shoegaze. "By the time Benedict Cumberbatch is reading you the first part of 'Flat Of Angles' in the spoken word piece that now accompanies each record you'll be tightly tucked in and ready for his surprisingly rhythmic, enchanting, and non RP delivery of Simon Cleary's engrossing story. Who needs records when Late Night Tales are this good?"
It's 10 years since Interpol released Turn on the Bright Lights. If that's making you feel old, just put those feelings to one side and focus on the fact that it's been re-issued, complete with BBC Peel sessions, album demos and B-sides. This is ones for enthusiasts and completists; no one's under any illusions that the re-release of Turn on The Bright Lights is going to revive the band's career with a whole new breed of fans."a perfect storm of style, production and substance that has made its legacy last this long. It still sounds fresh 10 years later and may do so in 2022."
Taken By Trees release their third album, Other Worlds. They began life as a side-project for The Concretes' Victoria Bergsman but soon evolved into "bigger and better things." Instilled with woozy psychedelia, and 8s keyboard sounds, meshed with steel drums and "filthy bass lines," Other Worlds turns out "adeptly balanced as if pitching light against dark or beauty against beast.""The off-beat arrangements, well thought out mixes, crisp light vocals and sanguine charisma of Other Worlds is precisely why it should be heard."
Tulisa releases her debut solo album, The Female Boss. She has, arguably become better known for her stint as an X Factor judge and for her stint in the tabloids, when her sex tape was leaked, than she is for her music. We're not sure that The Female Boss is going to do her too many favours on that score; it's a struggle to find Tulisa's true identity in this collection of songs, with her myriad of different accents, none of which appear to be her own. "Things take a turn for the terrifying on 'British Swag,' in which she starts warning us - in an entirely new voice that we don't appear to have heard so far - about the "bad man in the corner" before bragging 'I know you like my accent, darlin'' and chuntering on about her 'British swag,' instantly betraying who her target audience is, here."

Lil' Wayne Appearing in the video for No Worries
The Week in Videos... 'No Worries' is a pretty appropriate title for Lil' Wayne's latest release, given that he recently revealed that he's on seizure medication, after suffering from fits. The video for his latest track is an homage to Fear And Loathing In Vegas, making no bones about his familiarity with the effect of psychedelic drugs.
The highlight of The Rolling Stones' 'Doom and Gloom; is undoubtedly its star guest, the actress Noomi Rapace. She turns up in a range of guises in this glossy production, helping to make The Rolling Stones at 50 a little more relevant than they otherwise may have been. Worth watching for her Jagger impression, alone.
Radical Face are the latest in a line of earthy folk acts to follow in the footsteps of the likes of Mumford & Sons. Fighting their way through the cloud of nu-folk acts, 'Always Gold' is accompanied by a moving video, doused in red hues and shot by fire and candlelight, telling the tale of a broken heart, on the road to repair.
A slice of retro pop here from Eugene McGuinness' 'Sugarplum,' peppered with modern references like "I should have said it when I had credit." Set in the grey and dingy environs of a city rooftop, the video is somewhat at odds with the summery melodies, but all the more striking for it.

Rihanna partying with her fans aboard flight 777 from Los Angeles to Mexico City
Music in the News... The big news last week was the non-news of Rihanna's 777 tour plane. The tour plane full of journalists, who were so thoroughly bored and frustrated at the no-show of the star of the show (and no, were not talking about the pilot), that one of them took to streaking down the plane, just so that the others had something to report back to their publications
Psy's 'Gangnam Style' video has finally surpasses Justin Bieber's 'Baby' as the most played video on YouTube. Having amassed an astonishing 815 million views since it was posted on the site in July 2012, the video has become a global sensation. Hopefully there's no serious rivalry between the two, as Py has signed to Scooter Braun's Schoolboy Records. Scooter being Bieber's longtime manager.
Green Day have announced that they will be releasing a behind-the-scenes documentary, entitled Quatro. the film will document the band's hectic schedule as they recorded three albums, in quick succession, entitled Uno! Dos! and Tre! With the band's frontman Bille Joe Armstrong currently recuperating i rehab, it could well give an insight into how he ended up there.
